AAG's Online Community brings members together

AAG's new Online Community went live a few months ago. It's great to see members sharing ideas, posting job opportunities and promoting their projects. But it's the fun posts that get the most traffic.

In the recent Tech Talk Thursday post, a conversation on technology to enhance the lives of older people has garnered some great ideas from members. In this chat, members share their experiences and recommendations on tools that have made a difference, from smartphones and tablets to wearable devices and smart home systems. Read about Yung-Hui's experience of using telehealth, Gwenda's Apple watch and Jane's portable oxygen converter, among others. There's also a link from Lui to the Tech for Wellbeing project.

This is what the Online Community is all about: be part of it! If you have any examples of how tech has enhanced the lives of older people - or your own - the AAG community would love to hear them. Visit the post today (members only).

AAG Research Trust scholarship for international Indigenous conference

The International Indigenous Dementia Research Network (IIDRN) Annual Conference takes place from 7 to 9 November 2023, in Honolulu.

The AAG Research Trust is pleased to offer a scholarship to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander member, to support their attendance at the event. One scholarship of up to $1,000 (AUD) will be awarded to an individual with an accepted abstract to deliver a presentation at to the conference. Details and the application form are on the AAG Research Trust website. The deadline for applications is 5 pm AEST on Monday 24 July 2023.

As an aside, the conference theme of  'Weaving knowledge' takes the AAG National Office team back to the recent 'Ageing at the Centre' forum in Mpartwe Alice Springs, where we learned about the work being done by Tjanpi Desert Weavers. Amazing stuff!

Study on support for informal carers: Call for participants

In another example of the breadth of work being undertaken by AAG members, we share information on a study on improving support for informal carers of people living with dementia.

iSupport for Dementia is an online education program for informal carers (family, friends and neighbours) originally developed by the World Health Organization. The aim of this MRFF-supported project is to understand informal carers' experiences of using the Australian iSupport program.
